Illegal Immigrants

About two dozens people share a house in East London. Some are legal and some are illegal immigrants living cramped together in a very small space. The inhabitants are all Polish without exception and the house is a port of call for all new arrivals. Many have entered the country perfectly legally by bus or plane using a tourist visa and only after that runs out do they enter the grey zone of illegal existence. Others, like Czechu, enter the country illegally on the back of lorries. Just like the way of entering the country the reasons for entering are manifold. Many come over to earn money. Others are looking for a new home and want to leave Poland or just have a year’s break away from their country. Most of the people in the house have one thing in common: they work illegally. And all of them are waiting for that one date: May 1, 2004, when Poland will join the EU.
